Norfolk Southern Trains in the Chattanooga Area
This video captures some Norfolk Southern freight trains around Chattanooga on two separate, non-train specific trips. The first two trains were shot in November 2023 while in Chattanooga for a conference, while the final two days of the video were captured while we were north of Chattanooga for a wedding during Spring 2024. Nothing but solid NS and BNSF lashups are seen on coal, manifest, autorack, and intermodal trains that include a wide load, fallen flags, DPUs, and more.

Heritage Locomotives Leading Freight + Passenger Trains on the CSX Abbeville Sub
Просмотров 1953 месяца назад
We'll take a look at and chase two trains on the Abbeville Sub, both with heritage unit leaders! The second of the two trains was the office car special, pulled by the Seaboard System heritage unit and two F40PH's, a really cool sight to see. This train was plagued by two slow freight trains in front of it that the dispatcher inexplicably did not stick into sidings for over 60 miles, despite ha...

Military + Freight Trains on the CSX Abbeville Sub - Winter 2024
Просмотров 6224 месяца назад
It's been quite a while since I've posted anything from the CSX Abbeville Subdivision. Well, that is being rectified with this video! Witness a variety of typical moves of both scheduled and non-scheduled freight trains on the central portion of the subdivision in February and March 2024. While the power is very lackluster, a couple YN2 AC4400CW leaders make appearances on military trains to sp...
Hard Working Norfolk Southern EMD Locomotives of South Georgia
Просмотров 5315 месяцев назад
Let's take another look at some past videos from South Georgia, centered around the hard working EMDs in the Macon area. Many of these locomotives do not exist today in their presented state in these clips. However, a number of them still perform daily tasks for Norfolk Southern. Locomotives include but are not limited to the SD60, SD40-2, SD60M, both high-hood and standard cab GP38-2, GP40-2, ...
The SD60 Locomotive: Hauling Norfolk Southern Freight Trains in South Georgia

Let's take another dive into the "archives" and look at another batch of SD60-led trains around Macon, Georgia! These units are some of my all-time favorites and were used almost exclusively in the Macon area in the final days of their service on Norfolk Southern before being retired, sold, or rebuilt in the SD60E program (yuck). These standard cab brutes were seen on all types of freights, inc...
Canucks and Fallen Flags: EMD Overload on Canadian National

Let's take a look at some of the great EMD power that Canadian National still has to offer. Not known for repainting locomotives quickly, CN still rosters a healthy sampling of fallen flag locomotives. A heavy dose of former Illinois Central SD70s are contained in this program, but Grand Trunk GP38-2s and even a Bessemer and Lake Erie tunnel motor make appearances. Of course, we can't forget to...
Burlington Northern Lives On - Trains of Norfolk Southern South of Atlanta

It's not often that one can see a BNSF "Executive" SD70MAC leading trains anymore, let alone in the southeast. One such unit made its way across the country on one of BNSF's loaded coal trains from the Powder River Basin in mid-December 2023, and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to catch it. As a bonus, someone had repainted the "BN" logo on the nose of the locomotive, a real treat to se...
Norfolk Southern and CSX Trains in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia

A friend and I set out early on December 14, 2023 in order to capture railroad action in the Atlanta, Georgia area with the specific target of shooting some trains in downtown. As of this video's posting, 10 units have been unveiled and have entered road service with many more units planned to commemorate CSX predecessors that helped make the railroad the modern day giant it is today. On two occasions in November 2023, heritage units were seen leading trains on the Abbeville Sub...

Fall Freight Train Action on the CSX Abbeville Subdivision

In tandem with the several military trains I managed to capture (featured in last week's video), there were a handful of other trains plying the rails of CSX's Abbeville Subdivision that I caught during fall 2023. I drove this line up GA 17 recently and if there's anything moving on it, it's not often. There was a small tree across the tracks south of Bowersville. The line has good heavy rail but it looks like it hasn't had ballast spread, surfaced and tamped since before NS left 30 years ago.

@@TylersNeighborhoodGarage It’s definitely not easy to find anything moving out there. They do something different every day and start early, so you really have to find the power wherever it’s parked and look out for the crew truck. And yes, heavy maintenance is not in the budget. Only spots that desperately need attention get fixed, sometimes not even then lol.

Great video, FEC engine 415 looks a little rough. She first came to the FEC in 1972 with 4 more GP40’s-2. They were numbered 411 thru 415. The Trains Magazine did a really nice article on the FEC in the copy dated July 1996. In fact on page 37 you will FEC engine 415 in its better paint days. It did have a different paint job logo but still the same blue paint. 415 was a great engine. I worked for the FEC from 1982-1985 and used to be the conductor on the Unit Train, which ran from Hialeah yard (Rinker materials n Medley) to City Point to unload the rock. We used to 2 of the 400 series On the 60 car Unit Train. Sometimes we got GP40’s and other times we used GP40-2. Please keep your FEC videos coming. Robert now retired in Island City Oregon.

Nice capture the military drag were M2A2 ODS Bradley's heading for Ukraine heading to 841st Transportation Battalion’s dock in North Charleston, South Carolina. These were the 1st batch of 50 M2A2 Bradley's announced on 6 January, with a subsequent 59 announced on 19 January 2023. While there are 64 on this train only 60 left Charleston on Jan-25-2023. Since one train came from Ft Campbell, KY I wonder if some of these originated from from the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment of the Tennessee Army National Guard. The 278th was upgrading to M2A3 Bradley's from the 3rd Infantry Division (3rd I.D. had received new M2A4 Bradley's) at the time. I confirmed the 2nd batch did have some from the 278th.
